Having to struggle though the state Spanish teaching exam 6 times was only the beginning of my Spanish teaching journey. How did I undergo all of that? Perseverance! My passion for Spanish, studying abroad twice (both in Mexico and Peru to improve) and my compassion for the special needs community, had also helped me plow through those difficulties. That very element gave me the heart to help others learn.
After studying abroad once and finally passing the test do be able to do my student teaching, I was so sure a job was going to be lined up upon graduation. Well that didn’t happen. Instead, I ended up in Peru again thinking I would limit international teaching to one year.
That second time in Peru was not to study abroad like the first time, but rather to get some work experience. I actually ended up there 4 years. I worked with special needs children at a church, got involved with Peruvian culture dancing, and taught classes throughout the years while continuing my long lasting love for Spanish. It’s my faith that keeps me alive in Jesus!
